Making Candles

A Itai Avatar

So ITAI not only does cute bags, but is also, hopefully, one day, a kawaii lifestyle brand.

We already sell candles at our local markets. And today I tried make a new candle “recipe.”

Honestly, I wasn’t prepared. I realized today, that the mold I had been using all this time to make “cinnamon roll” shaped soaps was actually a rose mold.

I found a the mold online just to show you. The description clearly says “Rose,” but in my defense, it’s been sitting in my soap making supply tub for a couple of years before I cleaned it up to make candles.

Once I noticed it was a rose mold I was hoping the white cream of the cinnamon roll frosting would make it look like a roll anyway.

I have a huge bag of soy candle wax, as you can see above. So I wasn’t worried about messing up too much. I’m super impressed with those girls online who do aesthetic candle making videos on youtube. My kitchen corner looked like a wreck pretty soon after starting.

I needed to add way more color than I thought I would to get the color of the roll down. And then once I did, Jack told me I had made them too dark to look like a proper roll. I guess I can’t win. LOL

We both agreed though that I need to get some black for the parts between the rolls. I think doing that and making the candles a bit lighter would help make them look more realistic.

At least the scent proportions are easy enough. That I think I have a good ratio. I’m currently burning a tester candle and it smells like someone is making cinnamon rolls in the next room over. That faint, delicious smell that happens when someone is cooking in the kitchen and you’re just chilling. Might increase it by 1%, 2% max depending on how I feel when the tester is done.

I’m a bit worried about the crater forming in the tester right now. I know the wick I used was not the one though. I had a ton of these left over, and this batch was more about testing formulas then testing wicks. I can only do one thing at a time.
